Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
Is anybody else worried that Bowen will just be the new David Kelly,or it is just my pessimistic Hammer attitude ?

Bayern Munich were interested in David Kelly the same way Inter and Barcelona were 'interested' in Garry Breen.

Hugill was on a good run of form when we signed him. .

Bowen looks like the kind of high energy player we need. And he speaks English as a first language. We need more like him.

Bowen will be an asset unless Moyes starts thinking he requires some of his special coaching, then he’ll just be a waste of space.

I bet he's already looking forward to his move to the Prem in the summer now he's seen us play.

If Leroy hadn't of got injured in 1989 we would have stayed up that season.

Jools keep an open mind for all new signings. Thats the way to do it.

Definitely not. This boy is mustard. Probably too late to save us but he's still mustard.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
An interview with Kelly and McKnight in 1989 lead to the newspaper headline "YOU'RE DESTROYING US" - referring to the non-performing players feeling a bit intimidated by the UP crowd's displeasure.

Now Lanzini gets booed off and an hour later he's posting videos of his bird being cute in their Docklands apartment on Instagram.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
Wasn’t Kelly referred to as ‘Bambi on ice?’

He joined us as Cottee’s ‘replacement’ and we thought we’d had a coup as, apparently, Bayern Munich were also interested in him (probably as a ball boy.) I later wished that they had beaten us to him.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
I quite liked David Kelly. Decent enough player but I think with us he was just above his level and he just wasn't physically or mentally tough enough.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
In fairness, Bowen has a decent scoring record, despite not being a striker.

Hugill had a pretty unimpressive scoring record, despite actually being a striker.

Tony Cottee's replacement then?

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
Likening him to Hugill wasn't a criticism. I just worry he'll end up the same way, fail to make an impact and end up being shipped out on loan by the next manager.
I take the point about him not being a striker which does admittedly make him more like David Kelly.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
I remember Kelly coming in around the same time as Alan Mcknightmre he tried hard but was to lightweight and was easily pushed of the ball.
Always on a hiding to nothing following on from the likes of Cottee & frankie mc.
Also recall Jimmy Quinn coming in as a target man in the championship not long after and forming a partnership with Morley.

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
Let's face it, on the list of shit strikers we've bought over the years, David Kelly isn't even in the top ten.

I thought he was OK without being great. Remember he went full on mental away at Hull charging across the penalty area to grab someone by the throat.

Found this report of it here http://www.soccer.mistral.co.uk/books/whu-sr-s.pdf

"It was in the away fixture with Hull City in September 1989, that David Kelly, who now had
responsibility as the main striker, was sent off for fighting with Stephen Doyle, who was also
dismissed. With just 4 minutes left on the clock and the game all-square at 1-1, a free kick was awarded
to the Hammers outside the Hull box. There were a number of elbows flying around as the kick was
taken and then Martin Allen made a challenge on the Hull ’keeper as the ball came over. Hull’s Doyle
immediately punched Allen to the ground and kicked him. David Kelly, not normally known for getting
involved, rushed in and pulled Doyle away from Allen, and then both had a bit of a scrap. As a
consequence both players had an early bath."

Re: Jarrod Bowen/David Kelly
Well, put it this way, if they hadn't dicked about this transfer window and even deadline day then we could've played against Brighton. And at 3-1 when we took Antonio off, had we replaced him with Bowen I am confident we would've won the game and confident still it would've about 5-1.

So, no, I don't see him as the new David Kelly.
